At first glance, the Bush Warwick 48″ Desk with Technology Integration looks rather ordinary. You might easily pass it up were you to judge it on first impressions only. After all, it’s a solid piece of furniture consisting of simple lines; offers only a CPU cubby and what appears to be a drawer for office supplies. However, upon second look, this desk is both out of the ordinary, not as simple as its lines might suggest and a great computer desk.
Don’t Judge a Book By Its Cover
Even I nearly took a look at the Warwick desk and said to myself, “Now there’s a nice desk for a grade-schooler.”
It’s small; at 48 inches, it barely seems functional for anyone doing more than writing a simple book report. Something made me look closer at this desk, I am so glad I did. Upon doing so, I had one of those, “Aha moments”.
Although it didn’t suddenly grow in size, it did however reveal its intentions to me. A few things I noticed on my second look. I couldn’t see the wires I normally see dangling down from the computer to the outlet in the wall. I also realized that the drawer I had initially assumed to be the typical one used for office supplies, etc. is actually a media center. Open it and plug in up to four mobile devices. How often have you struggled to find a place to plug in your cellular phone, your iPod, and other mobile media? Maybe you have a cell for work and a personal one, plug them both in.
Are you wondering how to plug in your desktop or laptop? If you look carefully, there’s a cable queue on the right side of the CPU cubby, close to the back. Now your cords are visually obscured. Once inside the CPU cubby, it can plug into the wall outlet, which is seemingly invisible. Given the size of the desk, Bush has gone to great lengths to minimize clutter made from wires, which allows you to just simply work.
Practical Doesn’t Have to Mean Ugly
For the all the pragmatism this desk offers, it’s hardly unsightly. In fact, it’s quite attractive, in my opinion. Its deep, rich mocha oak finish gives it an air of sophistication not normally seen in desks of this price range or size. The European drawer pulls are bound to appeal to the most conventional consumer.
Ideal Applications for This Desk
I see the Warwick 48” working in three settings. One is rather obvious, which is that of a teenager who is “seriously plugged in”. He or she has a cell phone, an iPod, and iPhone or an iPad, and a handheld game player and NEEDS to have all his or her devices plugged in close to him or her while doing schoolwork.
Another is someone who works from home, has limited space and has more electronic files than he or she has paper ones. In addition to being limited on space, you are a minimalist and prefer your furniture to be understated rather than ornate.
The last place I see this desk is in a shared workstation. Perhaps an office with contractors or sales people meandering in and out, whose main offices are their homes and they telecommute for the most part.
The desk is rather new to the Bush “lineup” of furniture and as such, I haven’t seen a customer review on it. I can say, given its weight of 94 pounds, it’s unlikely you will complain that it’s a flimsy desk. There aren’t a lot of things that can go wrong with this desk. However, Bush has been manufacturing fine office and home furnishings since 1959 and all of their furniture is backed by their No Return policy. What that means is that if you aren’t 100% satisfied, Bush will gladly take anything back, no questions asked.
Whether you are looking for a desk for your teenager, for yourself or to offer a comfortable modern desk that addresses today’s electronic worker, the Bush Warwick 48″ Desk with Technology Integration is the desk to own!
