When I see desks like the Bush Vantage Corner Desk with Storage Cabinet in Light Dragonwood, they make me wish that when I was just starting out in life and worked from home, that desks like this were available. Little imagination seemed to go into making the home-office furniture back then. Manufacturers tended to focus their design efforts on the higher-end executive furniture. Thanks to companies like Bush, this is no longer the case.

Bush Vantage – No Detail was Overlooked

If I were in the business of designing desks for the at-home executive, I would surely incorporate all the features used in the Vantage Corner Desk.

Plenty of storage for both large and small items, I’d be very surprised if you could use it all, let alone run out of space. Offering the usual drawers for files, actually there are two, for office supplies and smaller items, as well the CPU. What this desk offers that is a little different is something I rarely see. Although there isn’t a hutch, you won’t miss it. The four compartments for say, reams of paper and your in-progress work are built into the desk, which means there’s no need for a hutch. On top of all that, the extra storage cabinet means you’ll never miss the hutch that doesn’t exist. Talk about having your cake and eating it, too!

I love the frosted glass on the CPU cubby and the storage cabinet. It not only dresses up the desk, but it also allows its owner to have a little privacy in much the same manner the hutch would offer. I also love the elevated shelf for your peripherals. It keeps them out of the way and doesn’t encroach on your desk space.

Lastly, I like the drawer handles. They add a nice touch to offer elegance to an otherwise casual piece of furniture.

Although I like the Bush Vantage Corner Desk with Storage Cabinet in Light Dragonwood tremendously, I can’t say I see it in any other setting other than a home office. Perhaps it can work in the room of your college student, but it’s certainly too large for a dorm room.

Quite honestly, for the money, I think you would be very challenged to find a desk with all these great features, of equally sturdy construction that takes up such little room. I have no hesitation giving this set my highest recommendation. When taking into account the style, the quality and all the neat storage places, I would have loved it if this desk were around when I was first starting out. That’s how much I love it.

Although subtle, a design feature I really like are the drawer pulls. Elegant and understated, they really compliment the desk’s cherry finish.

Recommended for…

Indeed it’s obvious that I like the Bush Birmingham Corner Desk, I do think it has its limitations. I see it mostly residing in the home office of someone with a business or who freelances. For all the features that I love, I just don’t see it conveying executive or even mid-level manager in a corporation. I can also see it in the office of a graphic artist who doesn’t require his or her furniture be large and make a statement about him or herself.

I can also see it working well in a college dorm or for a person who is just starting out and doesn’t have a large apartment or home. And again, although it’s not ideal, in my opinion, for an executive, this by no means is meant to imply quality is an issue.
