It may work well in a small office, too, if just a desk and chair are necessary, as those built-in file cabinets are truly a space-saving addition.

It’s a personal preference, but I really like L shaped desks, as they tend to offer twice the space of a regular desk but take up the awkward corners that are so difficult with which to do anything useful. Not all that long ago, I reviewed a similar desk to the Bush Tuxedo 60″ W Desk with Optional Hutch – Mocha Cherry. At first glance, the only obvious difference between the two desks are their colors – the other is in Hansen Cherry, which is lighter than the mocha. However, as I looked more deeply, I saw something that I might not have noticed had I only been paying attention to their respective colors. When talking about furniture, it is very true that darker colors tend to convey a formal tone, while light colored furniture appears more casual, less executive.
A Great Desk Just Got Better
I loved the Bush Tuxedo in Hansen Cherry; however I felt, likely because of its finish, that it was best suited for a home office.

The other points worthy of comment on these desks are: that the drawer space is more than ample. You can hide your CPU neatly away in the cubby. Above it is the typical office supply drawer that most of us need to keep excess pens, post-it notes, paper clips and memory sticks from taking over. At the end of the return, which is available in a right or a left, is a drawer for your pendaflex folders. Above it, should you need it, is another drawer for more stuff that has a way of cluttering up our lives.
The desk top at 60 inches wide offers plenty of surface room to write, spread out paper and of course, work on the computer. The thing I love about them both most is probably the hutch. As a big fan of hiding things away from being in plain sight, I love the idea of being able to put things behind those frosted flip top doors. Unless someone is really nosy, nobody has any idea what you’ve put in them once those doors are closed.
What makes this desk better than the first that I reviewed is simple. The dark color gives it an air of sophistication not found in the lighter version. I think just by darken the Bush Tuxedo up, a desk that previously seemed suited only for a home office, now seems appropriate enough for the office of an executive at any level.
What’s My Final Verdict?
I love the Bush Tuxedo 60″ W Desk with Optional Hutch. I really liked it the first time and I love it even more now. As I am looking at the title, I realize that the hutch is optional. For this desk to function as it should, I personally recommend you get the hutch. The added storage will be welcome, believe me. If you are as busy as most professionals are, you amass papers, books, reference materials, etc. that beg to be stored away when not in use. But from an aesthetic perspective, I honestly feel the hutch completes the look and balances things out. I think you’d quickly regret not ordering the hutch within a day or so.
I read all the customer reviews I could find on this desk and pretty much all felt similarly about it. They would recommend it to a friend, loved the sturdy construction, the design and many made a special point to make mention of the ease of opening and closing the drawers. Those are things I like to see in reviews. Specific reasons why people like something are always better than generalizations.
Another thing that stood out in the customer feedback is the weight of the pieces. Do consider requesting the “white glove” delivery. You’ll thank yourself when you aren’t the one struggling with it up the stairs.

This is one of those times when I am glad that I took the time to have a second look at a desk. Once I did, I realized what a gem I nearly passed up. The Bush Mission Pointe 71″ W Desk with Optional Hutch is an example of a desk (with hutch included) that on the face of it, appears to be rather ordinary, but with a closer look, it’s anything but.
I think my initial assessment is likely due to the fact that the feature photo was taken at a distance, leaving altogether too much to the imagination. Having researched the desk further, put one or two pertinent questions to Bush Furniture the manufacturers and read the customer reviews my initial first impression was wrong. Read on, let me make a formal introduction of this desk to you, so you too can make your mind up. You won’t be disappointed!
Bush Furniture Has Made Touches of Class You’ll Love
From a practical vantage point, this desk has many great features. Indeed its size is likely its biggest strength.

From corner to corner, which includes the return, you’ve got seventy one inches of surface space to work with. Something that caught my eye immediately is the design of the hutch. What at first appears to be solely an aesthetic feature – the raised storage for papers, CDs or what have you, in between the two doors – on second glance I realize it’s a clever way to accommodate a large computer monitor.
Offering the typical storage space found in most premium desks, the differences between them and the Bush Mission Pointe are subtle. Bush took a little extra care this time with their drawer and door handles. If you notice, they’re unlike what you’re likely to see on most desks, regardless of price or manufacturer.
Something I often come back to when reviewing desks made by Bush is the height of their hutches. Once again, they’ve gone to great lengths to ensure that it’s not so tall that you can’t reach the cubbies, but it’s also not so short that it’s obtrusive.
There are two last features that I feel take this desk from merely functional to adding that touch of class I love to see in furniture. The first is the choice of wood used. Wood by nature offers variety in color and isn’t as uniform as it can often appear. Indeed the desk has been stained, however, great care was taken to allow the natural variance in shade to show through the stain.
And if you look at the legs, a beautiful attempt was made to cover over the points where the legs connect to the desk. Indeed Bush could have easily left the head of the screws exposed, after all, most manufacturers would. However, covering them with an elegant but very subtle design gave it that special touch that endeared me to the desk even more.
Where Do I See This Desk?
Although it appears as though Bush is advocating its use in a home office, I believe it could work just as nicely in the office of an executive. The clean and simple lines, coupled with the special attention to add subtle elegance, has me decidedly in favor of seeing it in both types of offices.
My Final Verdict
Try as I might, I am incapable of finding a flaw with this desk. I think you’ll agree once you get it in your office. Clearly, it’s well made and sturdy. At 195 pounds for the desk and 67 for the hutch, there is nothing flimsy about this set up.
Based on its size, your desk will arrive by truck delivery. Given its size and weight, do consider inquiring about additional help to get your desk inside your office and placed in its desired location. You’ll thank yourself for having done so.
